Where would we be without Mum-Mum??

Visiting Mum-Mum and Pop-Pop in Ambler or Down the Shore is a grandson's dream: Movies on giant televisions, video games, remote controlled whats-its racing in all directions, hot tubs, motor boats, hot dog island, presents at every visit, delicious dinners and snacks, family outings in the big van. To a four year old, it is heaven on earth.

But picture it from the viewpoint of the Mother of the House? Good heavens! A disaster waiting to happen! How can one tell the kids from the grownups?

I don't know how she does it.

She does, though. Her home is always ready for company, and she welcomes the kids and grandkids with perfect poise and open arms. Doesn't matter if we pack three day's activities into a one-day visit, or show up at the wrong time, or make a racket, or shower the neighborhood with flying vegetables under the cover of darkness. We know Mum-Mum will still laugh, and welcome us back again as soon as we can return. And in the meantime, there will be perfect little presents and cards for each and every holiday and birthday that a grandchild can celebrate.

All she asks in return is a little visit on the couch, or a quick squeeze on the way from one game to the next. At Julian's age, such affections are natural, as Mum-Mum's shiny hair and big beautiful eyes are exactly what holds a baby's attention. Jonas, though, is reaching the age when holding still and visiting for a minute with the grownups at the table can be a little less natural. However, the parents in the room know how much you provide, Mum-Mum, and we shall do our best to ensure that our fast-paced offspring learn to recognize it, too.

Thank you for such happy visits, and happy memories for our boys!
