...in which Jonas gets a dog bed, and we string some Christmas lights

Soooooo...

This past Friday we were casting about for something to do. Can't take J to the movies yet, going out to dinner is costly if done too much and basically consists of sitting still anyway, and live music only sometimes draws him in. Sam hit upon the idea to fix up his "nook", which is our word for the little space under the eaves in his room. The previous owner of the house built a little platform for her kids, and we added some Harry Potter decorations.

Recently, Jonas and his friends have discovered this space, which is of a scale that suits the under-five set, and have been gathering treasures back there, and playing for extended periods of time. While they have not cared about the baby paraphenalia, clothing, and room-painting equipment stored under there, we decided that we would be more comfortable if the space was redecorated for its renewed status as a hideout. I was wondering aloud what we could use as a comfy crashpad under there, and Sam thought of purchasing a large dog bed. It fits like a charm, the only problem being that the space is so deep that we really need two positioned end-to-end. Next problem was lighting, which is where the Christmas lights came in. Jonas "helped" me to string them, I think Eloise would actually have gotten more done. Finally came the furnishings- the Sesame Street cushy Cube that J's Popop Bruce bought him long ago, a bin full of treasured toys that have come to rest there, and a little battery powered "starry sky" projector that we got with credit from the return of a badly-designed Light-Bright equivalent that had been a failed Christmas present (the designers actually expected us to fill each unused hole with a black peg. Are they out of their minds? What's wrong with black construction paper?). The Sesame Street cube functions as a step stool that can be jumped down upon, and the projector supplies the Zodiac. What more could a 3 year old future big brother need? He judged the whole project to be "Magnificent". ?!?!

Other recent words of the day; "meadow", and "immediately". Used in the following sentences:

[J and I finishing a woods walk along the soccer fields on Potwine. He doesn't like the looks of the construction going on, and peers through the edge of the trees.] "Lets walk along there. This is a meadow. We might see animals, like foxes or wolves."

[I finishes a long day. Dinner is done, and he is ready to cash it in. He retires upstairs to don his jammies. Returning to the downstairs, he finds his Bandit sitting in pregnant mom's lap at the dinner table. Both staring at him expectantly (so to speak). Pregnant pause.]

S:You're going out to get us vanilla ice cream.
I: I am?
His Royal Bandit-ness:You are going out to get us ice cream Immediately!

They were surprised that I changed back into jeans before running to the store :-)
